It’s that time of year again when we’re looking for meaningful grandparent gift ideas for the holidays.  But, what do you get for someone who has everything that they want, or most likely need, and who probably already has more stuff than they need?  The trick is to avoid giving too much stuff, and instead focus on experiences, instead of more “stuff” that they don’t have a use for.  By giving the subject some thought, you can come up with some fantastic gift ideas that are sure to please. Here’s a couple that we’ve come up with over the years.

10 Grandparent Gift Ideas

1. Small amounts of their favorite candies.  My dad absolutely loved peppermints.  My husband’s grandmother loved lemon candies.  Everyone has something that they love.
2. Nice stationary.  Not the cheap kind, but beautifully elegant cards and envelopes.  These make a great gift for nearly anyone, and grandparents especially seem to appreciate them.
3. Hand Lotions and Potions.  Pick things that smell nice, but aren’t overwhelming.  These are great, because they are consumable, and don’t create more clutter.
4. Anything with pictures of the kids.  If you have a tech savvy grandparent, a mouse pad may be a nice option. Perhaps a t-shirt with the kids’ names.
5. Fresh fruit or veggies in small quantities.  Choose small quantities of excellent quality fresh produce.  These have long been a huge family favorite in my family.
6. Fresh baked goodies.  These can be hoarded or shared with friends.  They are nice because they bring back holiday memories.  Holiday baking is a huge tradition in our home, and those smells and tastes evoke the holidays and memories.
7. Photo Calendar. This has long been one of the favorite gifts in our family.  Every year, we make a point of taking photos of the kids throughout the entire year.  Then in early November, we upload the photos to snapfish, and create a large number of calendars for family.  Family members look for these in the mail every year.
8. Gift Basket with Movie and Dinner Gift Cards.  You can buy movie ticket and restaurant gift cards, and combine them to form a lovely gift basket. If grandparents aren’t able to get out and about on their own, you could combine this gift with a caregiver for the day to take them out to enjoy their gifts.
